Jessie Cherry was raised in Nebraska, lived in New York City for over 10 years, and moved to Alaska in 2006. She has a PhD in Arctic Hydrology and Climatology, a Master's in Oceanography, and a B.A. in Economics. She has had jobs as diverse as a Wall street broker and an economic policy consultant for the Nebraska Intertribal Council. Cherry is still hoping to be an astronaut or to write a great novel.

Cherry served as a STEP Science Instructor in 2007, when the featured topic was Climate Change.
