Image: ASC Instructor Cheryl CooperCheryl Cooper taught elementary school in Delta Junction, Alaska, for 23 years before retiring in 2001. She became an Alaska Science Consortium Fellow in 1990 and has taught teachers at 11 Alaska Science Consortium Summer Institutes. She also serves on the Alaska Science Consortium Executive Council as treasurer. This will be her third year as an instructor for the STEP classes.

Cooper is the Alaska coordinator of the Building a Presence for Science Program and coordinated the Presidential Awards Program for Science (elementary and secondary) in Alaska for 13 years. She helped revise the Alaska Science Content Standards, write the science GLEs, the AK science test and set the cut scores for the test. She has served 3 times as the co-chair of the statewide math/science conference and continues to be involved with the committee for the 2009 conference. She enjoys traveling, cooking, and reading along with teaching teachers!Alaska Science Consortium Logo
